Spooked is a moment, not a mood, which is why it will not sit still on this page. It is the half-second after the jump: fear arriving all at once with surprise a step behind it, the white-eyed stare of a face that has been startled and has not landed yet. Blink and it settles into ordinary fear. Here it just keeps jumping.
